Youth

Youth

The Youth Program is for students in grades 6 - 12 and meets Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30. It is led by the Youth Minister and a number of adult volunteers.

Beginning in the Fall of 2009, St. Peter's youth began to explore a new program: Youth Alpha. Youth Alpha is the youth group version of a program that’s been popular throughout England for many years and which is now used by many denominations in lots of places all over the world. Both Alpha and Youth Alpha explore basic questions that are foundational to our beliefs as Christians.

In 10 -15 sessions taught by Janet Broderick, we explore questions like "Who is Jesus?" and "How can we have faith?"

Along with Janet’s teaching, adult volunteers facilitate age-level small group discussions as we grapple with these ideas. Toward the end of the course, the groupgoes on retreat for a weekend. Youth Alpha is a springboard to developing faith-filled teens.

Along with Youth Alpha, we can guarantee lots of team-building fun and activities outside of Sunday. If you’re in grades 6 -12, please come along with us on a new adventure in youth group!

Other Activities

Ski Trip

In addition to Youth Alpha, opportunities abound for youth to interact with one another and with the adults who support them in fun, service, and fellowship.

Each year the group embarks on an "Urban Adventure," visiting other parishes (often in inner cities) to meet with their young people and learn of opportunities for service.  Throughout the year, the youth of St. Peter's church enjoy lock-ins, ski trips, service projects with local charities, mini-golf outings, and much more!

Something Unique

While young people have multiple opportunities for extracurricular activities through sports and performance organizations, Youth Ministry at St. Peter's church is proud to offer something unique: a commitment to fostering the emerging adulthood of our youth through spiritual formation grounded in radical hospitality.

Opportunities for Adult Volunteers

Adult Volunteers are key to the success of Youth Ministry at St. Peter's. You do not need to be the parent of a youth, or even a parent at all, to support Youth Ministry! Volunteer opportunities are available for ongoing support as well as for individual events. Some common volunteer opportunities include:

Facilitators: help lead discussions at Youth Night. They form lasting relationships with the youth and guide the youth in their vocational development.

Youth

Dinners: individuals and organizations are encouraged to demonstrate their support of Youth Ministry by providing dinner for the youth on a single Sunday night.

Chaperones: The youth often need adult chaperones and drivers for lock-ins and out-of-town trips and mission projects.

Involving Youth in the Life of the Parish

We want to involve young people at St. Peter's in other parish activities; for example, a Youth Group member was also a member of the Search Committee.
