Grants

Grant Making provides financial assistance to local, national, and international organizations that assist people in need.

Recipients

The following organizations have received grants from the Outreach Commission.

  • Collinsville Child Care Center  - Since 1972 Collinsville has been located on the St. Peter's campus. They provide  childcare and education for children from low-income and working families in order to permit parents to work, and   to ensure that the children receive a solid foundation in education.  St. Peter's provides financial support through   grants and people support through classroom volunteers.
  • Community Soup Kitchen and Resource Center -  St. Peter's launched the Soup Kitchen in 1984. It is now an independent nonprofit, interfaith, organization headquartered at the Church of the Redeemer. A resource center has been added to serve other needs of the guests.  St. Peter's provides financial support and hosts the Soup Kitchen on Saturdays in the Great Hall.
  • The Community of Saint John Baptist  -  The Community of St. John Baptist is an order of Episcopal nuns, founded in England in 1852 and brought to the United States in 1874.  Their outreach activities include work in hospital and parish settings and the conduct of both private and group retreats at their campus in Mendham.  They repair donated vestments for distribution to small churches throughout the US and conduct classes in ecclesiastical needlework. Their former school is now the home of Daytop, a residential treatment program for teenagers with drug addictions, and they also support a Home in Cameroon, West Africa for children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.  We have supported them with small grants for their outreach activities.
  • Lafayette 4-H Youth Club  - This program was birthed and is nurtured by one of our own parishioners, Connie Montgomery.  Club volunteers reach out to young people at risk in our immediate community.  Many of the families served are the forgotten middle-income families who do not "qualify" for other government supported programs.  Volunteers who can tutor in school subjects, or teach a particular skill, are always welcome.
  • Lake Drive Foundation - The Lake Drive Foundation's Sound Start program provides early and aggressive intervention resources for infants and toddlers with hearing loss so that they can acquire normal communication skills by the time they are five. Support and education programs for parents are also included in the program. St. Peter's has traditionally supported this program through grants and now we are encouraging parishioners to help the Foundation by shopping at http://www.mtlakes.org/ld/fundraisingamazon.htmAmazon.com will donate up to 8% of all purchases to the Foundation.
  • Morris County Correctional Facility Chaplaincy Program  - St. Peter's has partnered with neighboring churches to provide a Protestant Chaplain at our local jail.  The jail presently houses between 300 and 350 of our neighbors, with close to 200 staff. In addition to providing spiritual counsel to inmates, the Chaplain leads worship services and arranges for holiday events.
  • The Chaplaincy at Morristown Hospital Chaplaincy - St. Peter's offers board support, advocacy, and financial assistance to the Protestant Chaplaincy Council.  This group works with the hospital to assure that chaplaincy services are available to all.  The Rev. Kay Locke is currently the chaplain who is supported by the Council.
  • St. John's, Union City - Each summer St. John's Episcopal Church provides a day camp for under privileged children in Union City, NJ. In addition to the usual camp activities like field trips, swimming, games, and songs, Camp Unity also offers enrichment programs in drawing and painting that are taught by visiting artists.  The monies St. Peter's gives to this program are used to provide scholarships for financially underprivileged campers.
