Worship & Faith
From the quiet intimacy of the early Rite I Sunday Eucharist, to the mid-morning Rite II Family Eucharist with a children's sermon followed by Church School and Adult Forums, to the late-morning Choral Eucharist or Morning Prayer (see this page for service times, and note that the schedule changes in the summer), the weekly worship of St. Peter's Church is characterized by an emphasis on "the beauty of holiness" and there is a genuine joy in participating in worship together.
We make use of the variety of options permitted by The Book of Common Prayer and have supplemented our prayers with Enriching Our Worship. Our Sunday readings come from the Revised Common Lectionary; the sermon most often is based in one or more of these readings. Our choirs sing music from around the world and from every historical period.
We keep the festival seasons of the church in high style. The Christmas liturgies are glorious, with participation by children as well as adults, and each year we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany with a ritual burning of the Christmas greens and a parish party. Great energy and anticipation goes into the preparations for Lent and Easter-Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, the Holy Week Days of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, culminating in the spectacular Great Vigil of Easter and Easter Day celebrations.
Worship opportunities during the week include Holy Eucharist on Thursdays at 12:10 PM. We also celebrate occasional Sunday Choral Evensong, followed by a parish potluck supper on the first Sunday of the month.
