Scottie Wright, saxophone
Anthony Hammond, piano
Join us for a program of American and French classical music, showcasing the versatility of the saxophone. Works range from John Harbison’s swaggering San Antonio Sonata to a lush, Neo-romantic sonata by Fernande Breilh-Decruck, a World War II-era female French composer whose works have only recently begun to gain prominence. Henry Cowell’s elegant Air and Scherzo and William Bolcom’s powerful Lilith round out the program. If you have never heard the saxophone in a classical setting, this is not to be missed!

Messiaen’s L’Ascension
May 29, 6 pm
Anthony Hammond, organ
Composed in 1933, this was Messiaen’s first cycle of meditations for organ on events in the life of Christ. Majestic and serene in equal measure, the four movements are performed in their entirety to mark the Feast of the Ascension. We invite you to St. Peter’s to experience the power of this masterpiece on the day for which it was intended.
